Lucy Grau ” I’m Coming Out” Salsa Remix ( Dj Alex Gutierrez & Lewis Martinee)

When you think of a ” Remix” you expect a completely different version of the ” regular” or the original track. Some producers only use the vocals and then totally construct a new music bed , usually in a particular style such as ” House” .They ” Time Compress” the voice and in most cases speed up the original Beats per Minute of the track. The result more often than not sounds forced and un -natural. Pop and Dance music are more flexible and lend themselves to being Remixed. Salsa is a totally different animal . The approach, from a remixer point of view, is not to create, but to ” Enhance” The Salsa Remixer must consider the ” Salsa dancer” above everything else since this is the primary consumer and the demographic you target with such a project. The Club and Mobile DJ is also in your sights, since without their support the track remains invisible to the general public. Salsa Radio is almost extinct in the states with only 1 artist dominating this genre.

Lewis Martinee :” I was excited when Alex brought in this project” recalls Producer Lewis Martinee ( Expose.Pet Shop Boys, Enrique Iglesias) ” It was a great song by Diana Ross written and produced by Chic members Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers, and released in August 22, 1980 by local artist Lucy Grau. My partner Alex Gutierrez who has mixed on countless of Latin radio stations here in Miami and I immediately began studying the original as well as Lucy’s excellent remake. After bouncing ideas off of each other we arrived at a very DJ and Dancer friendly version which we worked on over the holidays. The final product is something we are very proud of”
Alex Gutierrez: I had remixed tracks for many Latin artists back in the 90s and early 2000s while on Spanish Stations. Salsa has always been one of my favorite genres, unfortunately it slowly faded largely in part to lack of radio support. I have never understood why this city does not promote it’s homegrown talent on the air. Lucy Grau’s ” Last Dance” the 1979 Donna Summer hit was one of the Best Salsa remakes of an American song I had ever heard (not to be left out, Carlos Oliva, and Tony Succar also have some excellent productions) . True and faithful to the original with vocals by Lucy that Donna would be proud of. I initially presented the track to my South Florida DJ Association ( Over 2000 DJs) whose input inspired me to approach Lucy’s people for an opportunity to create a version we could easily mix in and out of our programming. The result is an incredible sounding version ,that grabs you from the first few notes. Thanks to the technical wizardry of Producer Lewis Martinee ( Billboard Song Writer of the Year ) whose chart topping experience was invaluable, we were able to achieve exactly what we were aiming for. We are excited to begin working with other local latin artists in the coming months. We may be contacted at djalexgutierrez@yahoo.com DJs who would Like an Mp3 of this remix are directed to the South Florida DJ Association Facebook Page to obtain their copy FOR PROMOTION ONLY.
