Jeanette “Lady” Day – Come Let Me Love You (1981)

Back in the early 80s Prelude Records , the house of such fast thumping bangers like ” Fire Night Dance” ” Keep on Jumpin” and many more , began putting out more soulful and down tempo product with heavy elements of Disco. The “Extended Mix” began to enjoy popularity among DJs and Prelude ( a New York based independent dance label active from 1976 – 1986 ) was there to capitalize on this segment of the market.
Jeanette “Lady” Day’s ‎– Come Let Me Love You ( Prelude Records (US) / 1981 ) was a DJ favorite and a huge New York Club hit. Meanwhile here in Miami we were missing the Disco product that was now scarce but still very popular in our local clubs. “Come Let Me Love You” was a blessing in disguise to many of us at the club level and all though the track never really played on radio except on a few local mix shows , DJs embraced this smooth ,sexy, percussive track as an early evening opener to heat up the dance floor. Jeanette’s vocal style had traces of Cheryl Lynn with a little Tina Marie thrown in. The ” Orgasmic” moans prevalent during the track made the cut on of my most requested songs of the time ( yes I occasionally took a request ) The 11 minute mix by french Producer and New York DJ François Kevorkian with a percussion break clocking in over a minute and a half was a DJ’s dream allowing jocks to get creative over the pseudo-latin beats (In My opinion those beats would later inspire Crystal Water’s 100% Pure Love ). The track is still strong and although not so recognizable as other tracks of the time can still pack an early evening dance floor.
